I am still involved with getting wittner in germany to get k40 sound stripped film .I have tried a number of times to see how many people would be interested in purchasing the stuff in what quantities and for how much. The MAIN PROBLEM is you need a reloadable cartridge( very limited quantity available)and it costs about $1500.Any comments?</font></td></tr></table></td></tr></table></BLOCKQUOTE>

You would be better off getting empty Kodak sound cartridges from Dwaynes. Ask them to save all sound carts that they develop and send them to you for a small fee.

I think a lot of pro's would like to shoot super8 sound film. what would be nice is to see www.super8sound.com buy the K40 from Germany and reload sound carts. they have ability to do so. i'd like to see a negative sound stock also. Kodak will never do it, but Super8Sound could. it's also a great student format! maybe we should lobby Super8Sound more aggressively.

S8S would never listen. Not to the little guys. Not unless you were a group of VH1 producers or Oliver Stone.

    Angry

    question for cameraguy
how does getting sound carts from duane help?
you still need the sound film.if you mean that you are going to get the film from wittner then cut it up into 50ft pieces then load expose, and splice together and reload the wittner cart for processing thats a pretty big job for a darkroom.besides you have to assume you are not going to cause problems with your splicing.also you are going to be missing the catch hole at the end of the 50ft normal cart which will not stop the transport indicator and hence you could wind up shooting without film in the camera unless you watch the footage counter which is not the best way to shoot. remember also the general advantage of not having to change the 50ft cart as often as the 200ft magazine.also the 200ft cart has a real pressure pad which should result in sharper edge to edge pictures

Not sound cartridges so no live sound recording is available but there are Russian reloadable 15m carts available.Do not know them but I think PRO8 tested them initially and found them no good for their product line. Went for the Kodaks which I think they improved somewhat.

    Check: http://www.geocities.com/russiancame..._cartridge.htm

    cassett v1x3

Also Kahl Film in Germany supplies these carts and all nesssecary gear to reload them, basically with film material from Kahl:

At least the soundstriped K25 I think, not K40 can be bought from Wittner in Germany and reloaded into silent Russian 15 m carts.

Listen, after spending God knows how many hours syncing up dialog to wild camera footage, I'd love to shoot sound footage.
    No more syncing!
But it's just not gonna happen.
Even those of you who are most enthusiastic about it, if someone actually DID make it, would whine if it were more than $15.00 a roll, which it would be.
I mean how many cartridges of S8 do you actually shoot in a year?
    Be honest!
It's not going to pay for someone to tool up to do this, and then sell a couple hundred cartridges a year, AND have people complain about how it shouldn't cost much more than K-40, etc...

One option is that Kodak manufactures sound striped film only supplied in both sound and silent carts. This will increase the production volume for the sound striped film to max. Of course the price will rise but in Norway I have seen silent carts priced in photo shops at $37. They now sell from Kodak for about $19 incl processing so I think there are room for a higher price here at least.

According to some of my older S8, previously die hard SILENT friends, there was sound striped K40 available from Kodak in silent carts in the old days about 20 years ago).

    Good idea?

Extremely good idea. If it will fly is another matter altogether....

In "The super 8 book" Lenny Lipton said that Kodak came very close to striping all S-8 film early on, but it fell one vote short.

It would sure make me happy though...

    Question

    To rollemfilm
I wouldnt trust super 8 sound inc for the right time.
Do you want to guess what they would charge for a 50ft sound cart with developing?
Where IN THE WORLD WOULD THEY GET THE 50FT EMPTY CARTS FROM? DWAYNES?
